In a daring rescue operation, the Kogi State Police Command has foiled an attempted kidnapping of 23 travelers along the Lokoja/Kabba road. The incident occurred on Monday when gunmen attacked a commercial vehicle, sparking a fierce gun duel between the police and the hoodlums.
According to SP William Aya, Public Relations Officer of the Kogi State Police Command, officers attached to the Obajana Division promptly responded to the sporadic gunfire and engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle. The hoodlums were forced to abandon their victims and flee upon sighting the police.

Unfortunately, one passenger died while receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the attack, while six others were injured. The police successfully rescued all 23 travelers.

In a related development, operatives attached to the Ayingba Division arrested two suspects, Umaru Jibril and Lukman Umaru, on June 21, 2025, for possession of a locally made pistol, live cartridges, and suspected Indian hemp. The suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, has reassured residents of the command's commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state, in synergy with other security agencies [No sources used].
