ABIA POLICE ARREST SUSPECT INVOLVED IN YHE MURDER OF CHINESE MEN

Abia Police Arrest Suspects involved in Murder of Two Chinese expatriates,rescue 9 Kidnapped Victims 

*PRESS BRIEFING, BY THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, ABIA STATE COMMAND, CP DANLADI ISA, HELD ON FRIDAY, 4TH OF JULY 2025, AT THE COMMAND HEADQUARTERS, UMUAHIA*

Greetings esteemed members of the media, I extend a warm welcome to you all to this press briefing. The reason we are gathered is to update and keep the public informed about the Command’s continuous efforts in combating crime and fostering a secure environment conducive to socio-economic growth in the State.

The Abia State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime, reducing incidents of murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, vandalism of government properties, rape, and defilement. Through diligent operations, suspects have been apprehended, and numerous exhibits have been recovered, including firearms of various specifications, stolen vehicles, and illicit substances. Additionally, trafficked and kidnapped victims have been safely rescued. Several cases have been charged to court, leading to successful prosecutions.
However, we would like to highlight in summary the major achievements recorded by the Command from January till date .

-A total of 230 male suspects and 15 female suspects were successfully apprehended during various operations, prosecuted and some remanded in custody. 

-9 kidnapped victims and 18 trafficked children were safely rescued.

-Recovery of 15 locally made short gun, 4 AK-47 rifles, 2 Ruger 1022 Archangel Foreign Military Rifle, 1 LAR rifle, 1 long range smoke gun, 1 fabricated locally made baretta pistol, 1 pump action gun, 1 English Czech Scorpion pistol, 347 rounds of ammunitions and other arms of various specifications. 

-Recovery of bags of substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa (Indian hemp)/other substances suspected to be illicit hard drugs.

-Recovery of 4 vehicles, 2 motorcycles and 3 auto-rickshaws. 

Other recovered items include 5 gas cylinders, 8 iron protectors, 4 ITEL GSM handsets, 6 inverter batteries, 1 jack-knife, 4 berets, assorted cartons of fake wine, jerricans containing liquid substance or chemicals, 1 big iron instrument, heavy duty engine, 1 channel iron, 1 axe, 8 school bags, electrical cables, Four-wheel spanners, 5 bolts, 200 liters of gas oil, scissors, stainless tray pan, 4 Infinix phones, spanners, 8 machetes, 2 LG plasma television set, top table fridge compressor, air conditioner compressor, 6 pieces of aluminum zinc, industrial cable cutters, 1 plier, 1 pincer, 1 torchlight, 1 green face mask, 1 dagger, 1 hammer, 1 black boot, vandalized fence wires,copper wires, generator battery, refrigerator compressor, solar battery, electricity transformer parts, armoured cables, 4 pieces of structured iron, one Polaris bank ATM card, one big generator, sumo wires, hack saws, PS3 game, dell Laptop, black anchor pendant, blue face cap with badge inscribed with De Norseman K Club, 3 IPhones, 1 power bank and others. 

*BELOW ARE THE DETAILS OF ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE MONTH OF MAY AND JUNE 2025*

1. *ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR CONSPIRACY/MURDER*

SUSPECTS: Chisom Chikwendu "m" 35 yrs

Recalling the unfortunate attack on a group of Chinese expatriates .
on 04/04/2025, while they were en route to their company site located at Agukwu Amaya Ndudu community, Uturu, in Isuikwuato LGA — the tragic incident led to the death of two Chinese expatriates and a police officer.

Leveraging technical and credible intelligence, the Command, on 28/05/2025, apprehended one Chisom Chikwendu, male, 35 years old, from Ngoli Logara, Ngor Okpuala LGA, Imo State in connection to the attack. He has been prosecuted by the Command and remains in prison custody. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal gang, as investigation is ongoing.

2. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR KIDNAPPING/RECOVERY OF FIREARMS*

On the 24/06/2025 at about 1930 hrs officers attached to IRU squad arrested three individuals in connection to a case of kidnapping which occurred at Amos Residence, Umugo Village on the 4/06/2025. The suspects are Eberechi Gift Ihechi, "f" 17 yrs, from Mbutu Alaoji Village, Loveday Confidence, "m" 30 yrs from Ugwati Asa Village, and Chukwudi Onyejwu, "m" 35 yrs from Uzoatta Village. Items recovered from the suspects include a pump-action gun with three live cartridges and two expended cartridges. Investigation is ongoing.

On the 29/06/2025 at about 0127hrs, leveraging credible intelligence, officers attached to Anti-Cultism Umuahia, arrested 24 suspects belonging to unlawful society (cultism) in Ahuwa/Umuigu Oboro community, Ikwuano LGA. During the operation, several exhibits were recovered, including a machete, a black beret, a black anchor pendant, and a blue face cap with a badge inscribed with "De Norseman K Club." A locally made pistol with a live cartridge was also recovered from one of the suspects and they have been remanded at Afara correctional centre. 

4. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR DEFILEMENT*

SUSPECT: Onyebueze Emetu "m" 41 yrs
On the 02/07/2025 at about 1307 hrs, we received a report at Ikwuano Divisional headquarters that Onyebueze Emetu "m" 41 yrs from Ekpiri Ala Ala Community defiled a one year old girl. 

On receipt of this report officers from the above Division visited the scene and apprehended the suspect who confessed to the crime. The victim is currently at the hospital for medical treatment and the suspect will be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigation.

5. *ARREST OF SUSPECTED CATTLE RUSTLERS*

SUSPECTS: Ali Saidu 'm' 27yrs
Yakubu Mohammed 'm' 20yrs
Adamu Isa 'm' 27yrs

On the 29/06/2025 at about 1520hrs, operative of Operation Crush, a joint security task force, acting on credible information, arrested three suspected cattle rustlers in Ohiya, Umuahia South L.G.A. of Abia State. The three Suspects identified as Saidu Ali 'm' 27yrs, Yakubu Mohammed 'm' 20yrs and Adamu Isa 'm' 27yrs were allegedly attempting to steal six (6) cows from a herd of 38 when they were arrested. Suspects were later transferred to State C.I.D., Umuahia on 2/07/2025 where they are currently undergoing interrogation. Investigation into the case is in progress.

6. *ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR MURDER*

SUSPECT: Kelechi Ogwu

On the 23/06/2025 at about 2200hrs, we received a report at Eziama Divisional headquarters that Comfort Ogbuagwu "f" 24 yrs was beaten into unconsciousness by her boyfriend Kelechi Ogwu. She was later rushed to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead. On receipt of this report, officers from the above Division visited the scene and arrested Kelechi Ogwu after a serious resistance with members of his cult group.

7. *RESCUE OF KIDNAP VICTIMS*

VICTIMS: Mr. Friday Chibueze 52 years old
Mrs. Onyinyechi Chibueze, 46 years old.

On the 11/05/2025 at about 2100hrs, we received a report at Isuochi Divisional Headquarters that unknown armed men kidnapped the rider and two occupants of a tricycle along Ngodo-Amuda Road Isuochi. Police officers from the above Division, in conjunction with local vigilante, rescued two of the victims, Mr. Friday Chibueze and his wife, Mrs. Onyinyechi Chibueze. Investigation is ongoing to rescue the rider and track down the hoodlums.

8. *ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS/RECOVERY OF FIREARMS*

SUSPECT: Kalu Ephraim "m"

EXHIBIT: One single-barrel short gun

On the 21/06/2025 at about 1530hrs, we received a report from Central Police Station (CPS) Umuahia that leveraging credible intelligence, a team of Operation Crush Abia State arrested Kalu Ephraim "m" in connection to cult activities/attempted murder, and a locally fabricated single-barrel short gun and a tricycle with Reg No. UMA 27 VX was recovered from him. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the other suspects.

9. *ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER*

SUSPECTS: Damian Oguchi "m" 35yrs

On the 05/05/2025 at about 1020 hrs, we received a report at Uturu Divisional headquarters that Damian Oguchi "m" 35 yrs attacked and severely beat up a 75 yr old man with a matchet, over a land dispute. The victim was rushed to Graceland Hospital Uturu for medical attention. 

Upon this report, the suspect has been apprehended by officers from the above Division. Discreet investigation is ongoing at State Criminal Intelligence Department (SCID). 

10. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR MURDER*

SUSPECT: Uchechukwu Bethel 'm' 38 years old

On the 03/05/2025 at about 2000hrs, we received a report at CPS Umuahia that one Uchechukwu Bethel accidentally shot and killed a colleague, Promise Emzuo, during a hunting expedition at Avonkwu Village Ibeku Umuahia. The suspect has been arrested by officers from the above mentioned Division and efforts are ongoing to recover the firearm.

11. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF HARD DRUGS SUSPECTED TO BE INDIAN HEMP*

SUSPECTS: 7 male suspects

On the 14/05/2025 at about 2150 hrs, leveraging credible intelligence, police officers attached to Ogbor-Hill Divisional headquarters, conducted a raid on criminal/black spots at Ukaegbu, Umuola, and arrested seven male suspects with wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, one Infinix phone and a Polaris Bank ATM card suspected to have been stolen. The exhibits have been recovered and the suspects has been charged to court. 

12. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR STEALING*

SUSPECTS: Maraizu Chinenye

EXHIBITS: One big generator

Sumo wire

On the 14/05/2025 at about 1520 hrs, we received a report at Uratta Divisional headquarters that Maraizu Chinenye 'f' from Umueje Uratta broke into a compound and stole several items, including a generator, gas cylinder, iron, and sumo wire. 

Upon receipt of this report, officers from the above mentioned Division arrested the suspect and the exhibits were recovered. The suspect has been charged to court. 

13. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR STEALING*

SUSPECT: Hyginus Anayo

EXHIBIT: One tricycle with Reg No. NSH 814QG
One Iron rod

On the 08/06/2025 at about 1730 hrs, we received a report at Ubakala Divisional headquarters that some menn were caught by youths of Afara Okpurure community for stealing iron rods belonging to Ceramic Company. Upon this reports, police officers visited the scene and Hyginus Anayo Onuzuruike, was arrested and a tricycle with Reg No. NSH 814QG, one Iron rod were recovered from the suspect. Investigation is ongoing. Case will be transferred to SCID for discreet investigation. 

14. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR VANDALIZATION OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTIES*

SUSPECTS: Jasper Emeka Avans Chidiebene Sunday 

EXHIBITS:one black Daylong motorcycle with Reg No. 177 QL one hack saw spanners

On the 15/05/2025 at about 1630 hrs, officers from Akwete Divisional headquarters in collaboration with local vigilantes apprehended Jesper Emeka Avans and Chidiebene Sunday for vandalizing and stealing government property, including electricity transformer, generating set, and electricity cable, from a palm oil mill in Ohuru Ndoki community.
The following items were recovered from them, one black Daylong motorcycle with Reg No. 177 QL, one hack saw, three pieces of spanner. Investigation is ongoing. 

15. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS/ RAID OF CRIMINAL HIDEOUT*

SUSPECTS: 11 suspects

EXHIBITS: Two machetes

On the 16/05/2025 at about 2200hrs, police officers from Central Police Station Umuahia (CPS) raided a black spot at Golden 'B' Brothel in Ubakala and apprehended 11 suspects. Two machetes and wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the suspects. The suspects have been charged to court. 

16. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR CONSPIRACY/BELONGING TO UNLAWFUL SOCIETY*

SUSPECTS: Ugochukwu Godswill "m" 25 years old
Divine Anyaele Kalu "m", 26 years old
 Chilaka Precious "m" 21 years old
Chimezie Chidozie, "m" 21 years old.

On the 17/05/2025 at about 1325 hrs, we received a report at Anti-cultism squad Umuahia that suspected cultists were engaging in supremacy fight and were firing gunshots. Acting on credible intelligence, the police officers apprehended Ugochukwu Godswill "m" 25 years old, Divine Anyaele Kalu "m", 26 years old, Chilaka Precious "m" 21 years old, Chimezie Chidozie, "m" 21 years old. The following items were recovered from them PS3 game, one Dell laptop and one LG TV. The suspects are students of Federal University of Agriculture Umudike, and one of them confessed to being a former leader of a cult group known as Supreme Vikings. Investigation is ongoing. 

17. *ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM/CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY/RECOVERY OF FIREARM*

SUSPECT: Nzubechi Uzokwu "m" 20yrs
EXHIBITS: 1 locally made pistol 1 machete

On the 19/05/2025 at about 0817 hrs, leveraging credible intelligence, officers attached to Ohuhu Divisional headquarters in collaboration with community youths arrested Nzubechi Uzokwu "m" 20yrs who was seen lingering around a residence with another individual, Kelvin Elendu, who escaped. One locally made pistol and machete were recovered from him. Investigation is ongoing at SCID to track down the fleeing accomplices.

On the 19/05/2025 at about 1145 hrs, detectives from Abia State Police Command, leveraging credible intelligence, apprehended one Blessing Emebo "f" 49yrs and Sunday Emebo "m" 42yrs for operating an unregistered motherless babies’ home in their apartment at Ikot Ekpene Road Aba.
The suspects were found in possession of twelve (12) children, aged between six months and fourteen years, from different villages in Arochukwu. The rescued children have been safely handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs for custody. Meanwhile investigations are ongoing. The suspects are currently being interrogated at the state CID Umuahia and will soon be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigation.

19. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM/RECOVERY OF FIREARM*

 Amuzienwa Ethelbert 'm' 52yrs
EXHIBIT: One locally made pistol

On the 28/05/2025 at about 2025 hrs, officers attached to Anticultism Squad Umuahia apprehended Amuzienwa Ethelbert 'm' 52 yrs from Ohaji Egbema LGA Imo state for unlawful possession of a firearm. A locally made pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspect. Discreet Investigation is ongoing. 

20. *ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM/ RECOVERY OF FIREARMS*

On the 28/05/2025 at about 0600hrs officers attached to Bende Divisional headquarters, leveraging credible intelligence, apprehended Kelvin Theophilus linked to a residence in Okopedi Itumbauzo Village Bende LGA, where notorius criminals converge. The following items were recovered from him, one locally made pistol, one expended cartridge, one tricycle, two Android phones, hard drugs suspected to be Indian hemp, rizler, smoking pipe, scissors, POS machine, and beads. Investigation is ongoing to apprehend other suspects. 

21. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR RAPE*

SUSPECTS: Godday Adiyemi "m"

On the 13/06/2025 at about 0800hrs, we received a report at Obehie Divisional headquarters that Godday Adiyemi "m" defiled a 15 year of girl and threatened to kill her if she tells anyone. 
On receipt of this report, officers from the above Division apprehended the suspect and investigation is ongoing at SCID. 

22. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR DEFILEMENT*

SUSPECT: Sunday Udoeze "m" 18 yrs

On the 12/06/2025 at about 0835 hrs, we got a report at Bende Divisional headquarters that Sunday Udoeze "m" 18 yrs from Ogubi Ukwo Bende LGA defiled 3 minors and warned the victims from reporting to anyone. On receipt of this report, the scene was visited by officers from the above Division and the suspect was arrested. Investigation is ongoing. 

23. *ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR MURDER*

SUSPECT: Enwereaka Ndidi "m" 53yrs
On the 17/06/2025 at about 1100hrs, we gotta report at Ubakala Divisional headquarters that Enwereaka Ndidi "m" 53 yrs, had a confrontation with Rev From Geoffrey Oparakwe during a mediation session which led to the death of the Rev Father. Following the incident, the police officers from the above Division visited the scene and the suspect has been arrested. Investigation is in progress. 

24. *ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR MURDER/STEALING/CONSPIRACY*

SUSPECT: Izuchukwu Uzoma
Chikodi Anyanwu

On the 24/06/2025 at about 1800hrs, leveraging credible information, officers from Uratta Divisional headquarters arrested Izuchukwu Uzoma and Chikodi Anyanwu in connection to the murder of Ifeanyi Uzoma. The motive behind the murder was reportedly a dispute over their father's property, which led to a violent confrontation. After the incident, Izuchukwu allegedly threatened to kill his elder brother forcing him to leave their family house. During his brother's absence, the suspect took advantage of the situation to sell a significant portion of their family property, valued at over ten million Naira, without his consent. Discrete investigation is ongoing at SCID. 

25. *ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR MURDER*

SUSPECT: Emmanuel Agwu "m" 87yrs 
EXHIBIT: One machete

On the 29/06/2025 at about 1200 hrs, we received a report at Ohuhu Divisional headquarters on an incident that occurred in Ihite Ude Ofeme, Ohuhu Clan, Aboh Mbaise, resulting in the death of Chinedu Emmanuel, "m" 28 yrs. Further investigation revealed that Chinedu Emmanuel had been involved in a dispute with his father, Elder Emmanuel Agwu, "m" 87yrs, over the ownership of some bags of palm kernel. A violent confrontation ensued between them, and Elder Agwu inflicted a deep machete cut on Chinedu's right hand, leading to his death due to excessive bleeding.
Upon this report, officers from the above Division visited the scene and arrested the suspect, and recovered the exhibit. Investigation is ongoing at SCID.
