In a poignant open letter addressed to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser to the President of Nigeria, a group of concerned citizens has raised alarm over the escalating national security crisis, particularly in the northern regions of the country. 

The letter, signed by its Director General HRH Ovie Omeleh on behalf of The Sons of Nigeria," outlines the dire state of affairs that has left many Nigerians feeling vulnerable and unsafe.

The letter highlights a series of troubling events that have unfolded in recent months, including a surge in mass kidnappings of schoolchildren, brutal attacks on farming communities, targeted killings of traditional leaders and security personnel, and the alarming expansion of terror groups into areas once considered secure. These incidents have not only devastated lives but have also instilled fear and uncertainty among the populace, jeopardizing the nation’s unity and food security.

The authors of the letter express their disappointment with the current state of the security agencies, criticizing what they describe as a pattern of excuses—such as "logistical challenges" and "coordinated plans"—that have failed to translate into tangible improvements on the ground. They assert that the time for excuses has long passed and are calling for immediate, decisive action.

In a bid to catalyze change, the letter proposes a "Three-Month Expectation Timeline" during which the government is urged to achieve specific goals and restore public confidence: reducing the frequency and severity of attacks, securing farmlands to allow displaced communities to return, and unveiling a clear strategy with defined targets for addressing the security crisis.

The letter emphasizes the importance of Ribadu’s role, noting that his appointment was met with hope for a reformed security system. The citizens express their belief in his integrity and courage, urging him to leverage his position to demand accountability from security agencies, prioritize funding, seek international collaborations, and empower local communities to enhance their own security.

"This is your moment of reckoning," the letter concludes, appealing to Ribadu's sense of duty and patriotism. "Your legacy will be defined by your actions now, when our country needs you most."
