In a dramatic and potentially game changing political realignment, the National Coalition Movement has officially adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 General Election.
The decision, described by observers as “a political masterstroke,” was reached on July 1, 2025, during an expanded meeting of the coalition’s national leadership. Sources within the movement say the choice was reached through unanimous consensus signaling an unprecedented show of unity among Nigeria’s major opposition figures.
In a powerful symbolic gesture, former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, leading the Social Democratic Party (SDP) bloc within the coalition, moved the motion to adopt the ADC as the official coalition platform. Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, seconded the motion, marking what many now view as a definitive alliance between two once divided forces.
Following the adoption, the coalition ratified two influential political veterans to steer the party forward: former Senate President, Senator David Mark, was named Interim National Chairman, while former Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, assumed the role of Interim Secretary of the ADC.
In a clarification to supporters, the coalition noted that members of the legacy parties, namely: the SDP and Labour Party, who are already contesting scheduled elections will remain under their current party umbrellas for now, but will receive the full support of the coalition.
Dr. Uche Diala, co-leader of the National Coalition Movement, described the development as “a testament to patriotism and selfless leadership.” He assured Nigerians that the coalition is driven by national interest and unity, promising more updates in the coming days.
With this bold political maneuver, Nigeria’s 2027 race may have just taken a sharp turn.
