The Executive Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Chief Eleanya Kalu has once again demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of residents of his LGA and beyond by swiftly responding to a distress call of an abandoned unidentified lady lying helplessly for days along the Abiriba-Igbere expressway.
The issue was brought to the attention of the Mayor by a concerned resident who immediately mobilized the Nigeria Police Force Abiriba Division to quickly search for the Lady and take her to Ebube Ena Medical Facility for medical evaluation and rehabilitation.
Through the existing collaboration between the Mayor and the Management of the Health Facility, the lady was admitted to Ebube Ena Hospital Abiriba, where she received medical attention for 2 weeks.
The lady’s initial evaluation showed that she was severely malnourished having not eaten for several days, indication of breast cancer and mental health issues as she could not clearly state her names nor where she comes from.
The resident doctor at the facility requested that she be transferred to a secondary health facility.
In a prompt and compassionate response, Chief Eleanya secured the support of the Ministry of Women Affairs to move her to Abia Specialist Hospital Umuahia, where she is now receiving comprehensive care.
The Ohafia Council Mayor extends deep appreciation to the wife of the Executive Governor of Abia State, Her Excellency Mrs. Priscilla Chioma Otti, for her timely support and intervention, which played a vital role in facilitating the patient’s continued treatment and recovery.
The Mayor also extends his appreciation to the staff and management of Ebube Ena Medical Facility Abiriba for shouldering the responsibility of taking care of the lady for over 2 weeks. They have continued to provide critical medical services to the Abiriba people especially during emergencies.
This act underscores the Mayors unwavering dedication to responsive governance and community care.
The public is hereby encouraged to have a good look at the lady for possible identification and connection to her family.
